Custom Wedding Jewelry: How the Design Process Works

Custom Wedding Jewelry: How the Design Process Works

One of the questions I hear most often is about the process. How does it actually work to have a piece of jewellery made just for you? Let me walk you through it.

Book Your Consultation

Before anything else, we'll set up a meeting, online or in person at our Coimbra atelier. I want to understand your personality, your tastes, and the occasion. This helps me create something that truly reflects who you are.

You can book your free consultation here.

What to Bring

Ideally, you'll have some references, photos, or a Pinterest board with ideas. If it's for a wedding, photos of your dress, hairstyle, and other accessories are incredibly helpful.

Feeling unsure or overwhelmed? Don't worry. That's exactly what the consultation is for. I'll help you narrow it down.

Your Quote and Next Steps

After our conversation, I'll prepare a detailed quote. Once you're happy with the direction, a 50% deposit confirms the project and I begin designing.

How Long Does It Take?

I'll create two or three sketches of your piece for approval before any metalwork begins. The production timeline depends on complexity and materials. A bridal headpiece might take less time than a bespoke ring with gemstone sourcing.

Generally, allow 2 to 4 months from first meeting to finished piece. Ideally, everything is ready in time for dress fittings. If your wedding is sooner, don't worry, read on.

Meetings and Mockups

Usually, one meeting is enough to determine the style and direction. I offer up to three meetings per piece, and for each project I'll create up to five mockups.

If you need more designs or meetings, we'd revisit the quote to account for the additional work.

Can I Make Changes Along the Way?

Absolutely. Throughout the process, I'll share updates so we can confirm we're on the right track. After the piece is delivered, small adjustments can still be made if needed.

Bear in mind that remaking an entire piece from scratch would mean reviewing the budget and timeline. But in practice, this rarely happens because we refine as we go.

Short on Time?

If you've left your jewellery until the last minute but still want something special, don't panic. I always have pieces in stock, designed and crafted with the same care, ready to ship in under a week. Browse the current collection.

If you'd still prefer something personalised, get in touch and we'll see what's possible within your timeframe.

Let's Create Something Together

Every piece that leaves our Coimbra atelier carries a story. Yours.
